Welp. Here I am… writing my first ever blog post. My name is Marie and I am the owner of Lullaby Sitters LLC. I am a stay-at-home mom launching my first business. I. Am. Terrified. Soooooo… here goes….
I thought I’d start by writing about how and why I decided to start Lullaby Sitters. It started almost 3 years ago when my husband and I lived in Northern Indiana. We were about to have our first child and I thought I would start looking into finding some childcare. We were hours away from family members and we didn’t know a ton of people, so joining a parent/sitter website seemed like a good option. I was not prepared for what a daunting and overwhelming task this would be!
The process of checking out networking websites, setting up a profile, scouring babysitter profiles, emailing back and forth, setting up the interviews, going to the interviews, conducting background checks… You get the picture. I narrowed down my search to about 5 potential sitters who I wanted to meet with. I then met with all of them. At different times, on different days, at various coffee shops. I liked 2 of the candidates. I skipped the $6 background check offered via the website and sent both candidates to my attorney’s office for a background check that I paid for. This entire process took about 2 weeks, cost me about $150, and I hired 1 person. The other candidate couldn’t start in time, so that’s why only one was hired.
I wondered how in the world any parent could make time for this process?!?! And then I thought about how nice it would be to meet a bunch of potential sitters at once and just go from there. Like speed dating… but for a sitter. Someone should do that. Light bulb moment! Hey… I could do that!
A business plan, a move back to Indy, 3 years, 2 kids, and rebuilding the website a total of 5 times later… we are ready to finally launch! So, even though I am terrified, I am also very excited and proud of this venture. The site isn’t perfect, but with your support and feedback, we can get it there. I hope you find Lullaby Sitters helpful. It has definitely been a labor of love, but I’ve enjoyed every second of it.
